Of course you do. Two weeks before nanowrimo, I find myself drawn away from the plot that I intended to write, by the plot that suddenly appeared out of nowhere. It’s kind of like getting married that way. You love your spouse to be very dearly, and you’re utterly convinced that you and your fiancé will become very happy together. And then the apartment next to yours is finally rented out to the hottest neighbour in the history of hot neighbours. And suddenly hot neighbour is all you can think of. Of course hot neighbour is intensely charming, drives a wonderful car, has a great job, is very creative, intelligent and witty and most of all, hot neighbour really, really, really wants to spend time with you.

But you’re still getting married to a person you really love, and you have spent the last six months at the very least looking forward to this event. Gah.

Of course this comparison doesn’t really work well for me, as I have no apartment, no fiancé, and don’t even get me started on my neighbours, but I imagine that the feeling is the same. I was perfectly happy with the botplot. Sci-fi makes me happy. My characters (all 4 of them) make me happy. My main character makes me happy. She has a name, she has a face, she has been living, breathing and battling her way through my imagination for the past 2 years now.

But on the other hand there’s the sleek complicated fantasy plot. Way too many characters to ever plot in two weeks time. No proper beginning. No proper end. Only some vague hints about the middle. But she… oh, ye nameless female MC, why do you have to be so witty?

And she has a great smile too. And probably a great car. And her job is kind of nifty as well. And she’s really creative and intelligent, and most of all, she really, really, really wants to spend time with me.

But come November, I’m still going to write the botplot, with Charlie, Stephen, Moriens and the good doctor. *nods* It’s just that flirting with another plot never hurt anyone. nope. not one bit.
